GTEC Announces Unveils Digital Accreditation System at KsTU’s 22nd Congregation

GTEC Announces Digital Accreditation System at KsTU’s 22nd Congregation

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) held its 22nd Congregation ceremony on February 28, 2025, at the New Great Hall, marking another milestone in the Institution’s commitment to technical and vocational education. The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, who stood in for the Minister of Education as the Special Guest of Honour.

In his address, Professor Abdulai outlined the exciting developments in the higher education sector, particularly, the introduction of an Accreditation Management Information System (AMIS). According to him, this innovative system which is to be launched in March 2025, is designed to streamline and digitalise the accreditation process for tertiary education programmes. What this means is that the manual submissions process will be eliminated, giving way to the usage of an online portal. “We believe this transition will reduce costs for institutions, increase efficiency, and expedite the accreditation processes,” he noted.

“Our mission is to provide essential guidance and support for institutions while ensuring that programmes align with our educational goals,” Professor Abdulai stated. He emphasised GTEC’s role as the regulatory body responsible for maintaining standards in tertiary education and ensuring that programmes remain relevant to national and global demands.

Addressing the existing challenges in the accreditation system, Professor Abdulai stressed the need to clear any backlog of applications to ensure that all programmes are in good standing. He encouraged Vice-Chancellors to actively engage their Quality Assurance staff to expedite action on pending processes and minimise delays that could hinder academic and institutional progress.

Beyond policy and regulatory measures, Professor Abdulai took the opportunity to inspire the graduating students, urging them to leverage the skills they have acquired to make a meaningful impact. “You have gained not only academic knowledge but also essential life skills such as effective communication, teamwork, and those of problem-solving. These skills will serve you well as you navigate the dynamic landscape that lies ahead,” he said.

The ceremony saw a total of 1,861 students from the 2023/2024 academic year receiving degrees, Higher National Diplomas (HND), and Diplomas in various disciplines.

With GTEC’s proactive approach towards enhancing accreditation processes and ensuring quality education, institutions like KsTU stand to benefit from the more efficient and effective regulatory framework, paving the way for even greater academic achievements in the years to come.
